Japanese cargo screw steamship (ex-Hermelin 1918-1928, St. Francois 1928-1929, Gia Long 1929-1930, Dumont d’Urville 1930-1936) Joan Moller 1936-1942 (Gyoyu Maru 1942-1944)

Built by Hong Kong&Whampoa Dock Co., Hong Kong in January 1918 as Hermelin for Bruusgaard Kiøsteurd D/SA/S, Norway, since 1928 as St. Francis Xavier of Compagnie Navale de l’Oceanie, Noumea, French New Caledonia, as Gia Long since 1929 of same company, as Dumont d’Urville of Societe des S. Contractuels des Messageries Maritimes, Noumea, purchased by Moller Line Ltd, Shanghai, China in 1936, scuttled at Hong Kong in 1941, salvaged by Japanese in 1942, renamed Gyoyu Maru and torpedoed by the American submarine USS Seahorse on 3 July 1944. In 1939 United Kingdom-flagged, homeport Hong Kong and call sign GZDT. Grosss tonnage 2,232 tons, under deck 1,786 tons, net tonnage 1,377 tons, deadweight 2,990 tons and as dimensions 270.0 x 40.1 x 19.4 x 19 (loaded) feet. Reciprocating propulsion, single screw, coal fuelled, 215 nhp and 9.5 (normal cruising)-10.5 (maximum) knots speed.
