Germany leased the Ottoman island Oeraam or Uraon in the Red Sea according to the Dutch newspaper De locomotief dated 16 October 1900

An item reported that the Turkish sultan leased for a period of 30 years the island Oeraan in the Red Sea to Germany to found a coal bunker station. The Deli courant dated 17 October called the island Uraon near Kamaran.(1) De locomotief dated 31 December 1900 reported that the German and Turkish governements were no longer arguing about the coal bunker station in the Red Sea. Germany agreed to keep the station until the crisis in China was solved. The edition The edition dated 2 January 1901 reported that the Turkish government embarked 450 military fitted out with guns on the island in the Red Sea with the intention to found an international coal bunker station

1. Kamaran Island is at the moment the largest Yemene islands in the Red Sea and was since the second part of the 19th Century part of the Ottoman Empire which established a quarantine station for pilgrims.
