Launched by Wood, Skinner&Co., Newcastle, England with yard number 66 as the Helios for D/S A/S Helios, Drammen, Norway on 29 May 1897, delivered in July 1897, in service of the army as transport since 1943 and still existing in 1946. Gross tonnage 1,455 tons, under deck 1,259 tons, net tonnage 882 tons, deadweight 2,325 tons and as dimensions 236.9 x 35.1 x 20.7 8.6 (light)-17.4 (loaded) feet. Reciprocating propulsion, single screw, 138 nhp, coal bunker capacity 237 tons, range 3,500 nautical miles/8.5 knots and speed 8.5 (normal) cruising-10 (maximum) knots.
