Japanese passenger-cargo ship (ex-Mataram 1908-1935, Kwan Ho 1935-1938) Kowa Maru 1938-1943

Call sign JZAM. Laid down by Clyde Shipbuilding&Co. Ltd., Glasgow, Scotland with yard number 286 for Burns, Philip&Co. Ltd., Sydney, Australia in end 1908, launched in 1909, completed in September 1909. sold to Chinese owners in 1935, sold towards Japan in 1938, requisioned by the army and became a troop transport annex cargo ship No. 482 in end 1943 and torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Wahoo (SS-238) south of Darien, Manchuria on 19 March 1943. Gross tonnage 3,217 tons, under deck 2,609 tons, net tonnage 2,249 tons and as dimensions  371.2 x 43.2 x 22.4 x 21.3 (loaded) feet. Reciprocating propulsion, 397 nhp, single screw, coal bunker capacity 335 tons, range 3,600 nautical miles/10 knots and maximum speed 11 knots.
