American correspondents first not welcome to visit Italian warships in 1940

American naval attache at Rome, Italy  reported on 13 December 1940 No. 656-40 referring to a not specified source that when foreign correspondents were invited to inspect warships at Naples American correspondents first not were invided because being non-belligerent instead of neutral but finally at the last moment included. The ships had been involved in an engagement south of Sardinia (NA649-40).
