Part of Bismarck-class preceded by Leipzig-class succeeded by Carola-class. Laid down by Norddeutsche Schiffbau, Kiel, Germany with contract name “C” in 1876, launched on 20 September 1877, completed on 21 December 1879 and sold to the Netherlands in 1909 where she became a coal storage hulk.
