Worse catch results for German whalers according to the Dutch newspaper Oprechte Haerlemsche courant dated 4 August 1699

An item dated Amsterdam, Netherlands 3 August reported the arrival on the Elbe some days earlier of the Greenland whaler Sara commandeur Tijs [=Matthijs] Claesse 4 whales 240 quardelen leaving on 26 June Greenland while a leg of the commandeur was shattered by a whale. He reported worse catchh results due to the icefields were still closed allowing no ships to enter. Of the 29 whalers of Hamburg had 11 ships together just 22 whales caught. Dealing with the Dutch whalers he could not say much.
