Italian cruiser and submarins being overhauled at La Spezia, Italy in October 1941

American naval attaché at Rome, Italy reported in October 1941 that at La Spezia the cruiser Bande Nere (1) and 3 submarines were overhauled.

1. Giovanni delle Bande Nere. Part of Condottieri sub-class Alberto di Giussano-class light cruisers as answer on the French Chacal and Guépard destroyer classes. Laid down by Regio Cantiere di Castellammare di Stabia on 31 October 1928, launched on 27 April 1930, commissioned on 1 January 1931 and sunk by the British submarine HMS Urge 11 miles to the southeast of the Stromboli on 1 April 1942. On 9 March 2019 announced that the wreck was discovered.
