Designed by the chief constructor of the Royal Navy (1872-1885) Sir Nathaniel Barnaby (25 February 1829 Chatham-16 June 1915 London. Part of C-class/Comus-class. Laid down by Messrs. Preceded by Bacchante-class succeeded by Calypso-class. Launched by J. Elder&Co., Glasgow, Scotland on 17 August 1876, launched on 4 April 1878, commissioned on 23 October 1879, reclassified as 3rd-class cruiser in 1888 and sold in 1904.
