Dock workers at Rangoon, Burma fled after Japanese air attack according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 2 April 1942

An item reported that it became necessary to send Chinese dock workers to Rangoon, Burma to unload the US lend-lease supplies from ships lying in the harbour because all native coolies fled from Rangoon shortly after the inital Japanese air attack.(1 The authorities were afraid that the same would happen of Calcutta was attacked.

1. First Japanese attack on Rangoon was on 23 December 1941.
