Laid down at New Albany, Indiana, USA as a merchant ship in 1853, launched in 1856, purchased by the US Army on 27 September 1862, rebuilt into an ironclad ram by Edward Hartt, handed over and commissioned in the US Navy on 23 March 1863, decommisioned on 22 July 1865 and sold on 28 March 1866.
