An item referred to an unconfirmed press despatch reporting that the Russian cargoship Perekop active between Vladivostok-Java, Dutch East Indies was sunk by 17 Japanese aircraft. The J.I.C. commented that if the news was true this would probably effect the relations between both countries in a positive manner for the Allies.(1)

1. The Dutch newspaper De Indische Courant dated 22 December reported the attack by 17 aircraft on the Perekop on 20 December. She measured 4,200 ton, captain A.A. Dimidov, and was in ballast underway from Vladivostok to Surabaya, Dutch East Indies. Of the crew were 29 men including the captain and 3 women saved, 8 men were killed. The attack was on 18 December near Senoa, East Natuna Island. Launched by Kelliebank, Forth Shipbuilding&Engineering Co. (1921) Ltd., Alloa, Scotland with yard number 76 as the Dampen for Red. A/S Damp-A.H. Mathiesen, Oslo, Norway on 13 May 1922, Rederi A/S Mascot, Oslo since 1930 and since 1935 of the Black Sea Shipping Co., Odessa, Ukraine.
