British escort carrier HMS Pretoria Castle 1942-1946 (Warwick Castle 1946-1967)

Launched by Harland&Wolff, Belfst, Northern Ireland with yard number 1006 on 12 October 1938, completed on 18 April 1939, requisitioned by the Royal Navy, converted into an armed merchant cruiser (armament 8-15.2cm/6” and 2-7.6cm/3” guns), in service in November 1939, bought by the Royal Navy in July 1942, converted into an escort carrier by Swan Hunter, Tyneside, commissioned in July 1943, served as trials and training carrier, sold back to the Union Castle line in 1946, reconverted into a passenger ship, renamed Warwick Castle and broken up at Barcelona, Spain in July 1962.
