Sister ships Nati Maru (1926)-Muro Maru (1928), similar Sumire Maru (1928). Call sign JNBH. Homeport Osaka, Japan. Laid down by Mitsubishi Shipbuilding&Engineering Co.Ld., Kobe, Japan on 1 June 1926, launched on 9 December 1926, completed on 28 February 1927, requisitioned by the navy on 1 August 1938, next day registered as special installed transport, conversion completed on 5 August 1938, general transport since 10 December 1941, conversion into hospital ship at Sasebo, Japan between 1 January-18 January 1943, sunk in an Allied air attack outside the entrance to the Manila Bay, Philippines on 13 November 1944 and stricken on 10 January 1945.
Gross tonnage 1,607 tons, under deck 1,052 tons, netto tonnage 740 tons and as dimensions 230.0 x 37.01 s 20.0 x 12 (loaded) feet. Diesel propulsion, two screws, horsepower 386 nhp, oil fuelled and speed 13(normal cruising)-15 (maximum) knots.
