Sister ships Nati Maru (1926)-Muro Maru (1928), similar Sumire Maru (1928). Call sign JNAH. Homeport Osaka, Japan. Laid down by Mitsubishi Zosen Kaisha Ld., Kobe, Japan on 3 May 1926, launched on 9 October 9126, completed on 20 December 1926, requisitioned by the navy on 21 January 1943, registered as auxiliary gunboat on 15 February 1943, conversion completed on 21 March 1943, later diving ship/submarine tender, returned to owners in 1947 and finally broken up in 1961.
Gross tonnage 1,607 tons, under deck 1,052 tons, netto tonnage 757 tons and as dimensions 230.0 x 37.0 x 20.0 x 12(loaded) feet. Diesel propulsion, two screws, horsepower 386 nhp, oil fuelled and speed 13(normal cruising)-15 (maximum) knots.
