Sister ships Gosyu Maru and Goyo Maru. Call sign JXSN. Laid down by Kawasaki Dockyard, Kobe, Japan on 2 March 1938, launched on 25 August 1938, completed on 17 April 1939, requisitioned by the navy as general transport on 16 October 1941, converted into a navy transport between 20 November 1941-9 December 1941, returned to owners under internal No. 1581 on 25 August 1942 and torpedoed the American submarine USS Tambor (SS-198) in the East China Sea on 3 February 1944 and drifted away probably sinkingon 5 February. Gross tonnage 8,469 tons, netto tonnage 5,126 tons, deadweight 10,435 tons. and as dimensions 443.0 x 60.0 x 40.0 x 10.6 (light)-28 (loaded) feet. Steam turbine propulsion, single screw, horsepower 3000 ehp, oil bunker capacity including deep tanks 2,750 tons, range nautical 23,500 miles/ 15knots and speed 15 (normal cruising)- (maximum) 17 knots, 105rpm/13 knots and 112 rpm/15 knots. Capable of mounting 12.7cm/5”-15.,24cm/6” guns.
