Strength of the Japanese naval force which attacked Pearl Harbor according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 12 December 1941

An item reported that the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii [on 7 December 1941] and other American islands was executed by striking force numbering 6 aircraft carriers  [Akagi, Kaga, Sory, Hiryu, Shokaku, Zuikaku], supported by a covering force of 2 battleships [Hiei, Kirishima] and a screening force of 2 heavy cruisers [Chikuma, Tone] and a destroyer squadron. It was believed that at the present the aircraft carriers were widely scattered.
