Ericsson (Långbanshyttan, Sweden 31 July1803 – New York, USA 8 March 1889) was a engineer and inventor active in England and the USA, who designed the first armoured ironclad named USS Monitor well known from the battle of Hampton Roads on 9 March 1862 with the ironclad CSS Viriginia.
