Lion-class fast battleship preceded by King George V-class succeeded by HMS Vanguard. Six planned of which 2 (Lion and Temeraire) were laid down on 4 July respectively 1 June 1939 but none completed. On 8 January 1941 was asked for a proposal to modify one of the two laid down ships to convert into a hybrid battleship-aircraft carrier. The design with 3x3-16” guns was not accepted and in June was a second concept presented. At the end this was also rejected and and in 1942 were the ships scrapped. As hybrid to be armed with 2x3-40.6cm/16”gun turrets and a flight deck of 152.4 x 22.3 metres or 500 x 73 feet; as battleship 3x3-16” guns. Able to carry 12 fighters and 2 torpedo bombers with her. Displacement 45,470 (standard)-52,000 (deep load) tons and as dimensions 243.8 (waterline) x 35.1 x 8.99 metres or 800 x 115 x 29.6 feet.
