An item reported that the Coast Guard cutter Alexander Hamilton (and not USS Hamilton as earlier was reported) operating with the US navy was torpedoed in the morning of 29 January near Iceland with some casulaties. Salvage was being attempted.(1)

Coast Guard cutter, laid down by New York Navy Yard, USA on 11 September 1935, launched on 6 January 1937, commissioned on 4 March 1937 and torpedoed by German submarine U-132and sunk on 29 January 1942. Salavage attempts failed and scuttled with gunfire of the USS Ericsson. Part of Treasury-class or Secretary-class succeeded by Hamilton-class.
