Part of Formidable-class battleships preceded by Canopus-class succeeded by London-class,ordered under the 1897 Programme, laid down by Portsmouth Dockyard on 21 March 1898, launched on 17 November 1898, completed in September 1901, commissioned on 10 October 1901 and sunk by the German submarine U-24 on 1 January 1915 in the English Channel.
