Portuguese navy blockaded the island of Colowan according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 18 July 1910

An item dated Hong Kong 17threported that the Portuguese gunboats Patricia and Macau restarted the same morning with firing at Colowan with the cruiser Amerlia disembarking sailors. A flotilla numbering 14 vessels of the local government cooperated with the Portuguese to realize an effective blockade. The cruiser Vasco da Gama was ordered to return from Japan and to go towards Macau together with the Sao Gabriel which was to arrive every moment at Hong Kong.(1)

1. The Portuguese tried to destroy the Chinese piracy base on Colowan.
