In his letter No. 105/39 dated 30 January 1939 to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine reported the German naval attaché in Italy that the British naval attaché in Italy captain Bevan (1) was replaced by captain Bowyer-Smith.(2) Bevan had been stationed at Rome for 2.5 year, follows now a course of 3 months at London and was probably to get the command over a ship in the Mediterranean.
