Owner Clan Line Steamers Ltd., London England. Part of a sub-class of the Cameron-class ships with identical dimensions numbering 11 ships consisting of Clan Forbes, Clan Buchanan, Clan Cameron, Clan Campbell, Clan Chattan, Clan Cumming, Clan Ferguson, Clan Fraser, Clan Lamont, Clan Menzies, and HMS Engadine, the latter was to be named Clan Buchanan. Launched by Greenock Dockyard Co., River Clyde, Greenock, Scotland with yard number 431 on 21 December 1937, completed in February 1938 and sunk by the German auxiliary cruiser Pinguin in the Indian Ocean on 28 April 1941.
