Turkish merchant steamship Burhaniye bound for the Mediterranean according to a letter of the German naval attaché at Istanbul dated 20 January 1940

In his letter dated Istanbul, 20 January 1940 No. 650 g1. reported the German naval attaché to the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht Abteilung Auslandthat on 16 January 1940 that the Turkish merchant steamship Burhaniye of 5,000 ton sailed for French account to harbours in the Mediterranean. The Turkish government forbade passing via Gibraltar.
