Japanese cargo ship Choan Maru 1926-1941 (Choan Maru No. 2 1941-1944

According to Lloyds in 1938 renamed Tyoan Maru. Similar Tyoko Maru, Tyozyo Maru and Tyoan Maru. Call sign JTCB. Homeport Osaka, Japan. Laid down by Kobe Steel Works, Harima, Japan on 26 April 1926, launched on 18 December 1926, completed on 31 March 1927, requisitioned by the army between24 February 1936-5 March 1936, requisitioned by the navy on 6 November 1941, converted into an auxiliary gunboat by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipyard between 8 November 1941-4 December 1941, torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Silversides (SS-236) around 120 nautical miles south south west of Guam on 10 May 1944 and stricken on 10 July 1944. Gross tonnage 2,632 tons, under deck 1,899 tons, net tonnage 1,388 tons and as dimensions 284.8 x 45.5 x 23.0 feet. and speed 14 (normal cruising)-16.5 (maximum) knots.
