Made for the General Board as part of the Alaska-class/CB1-6 large cruisers. Original dated the idea of a large cruiser from early 1930s when Germany came with her Deutschland-class pocket battleships later reclassified as heavy cruisers. End 1930s were large cruisers to be an answer on the German Scharnhorst-class battleships and the never realized Japanese B-65 cruiser-class which were to replace the old Kongo-class battle cruisers between 1933-1940 modified into fast battleships; design work started begun in 1939. Standard displacement 38,700 tons and as dimensions 850 (waterline) x 99 (waterline)-104.5 (maimum) x 31.25 feet. Horsepower 212,000 shp and speed 33.6 knots. Main armament 4x3-12” 50 cal guns.
