An item reported the arrival on 30 October of the American whaler Wavelet 709 barrels oil. Experienced a terrific gale on 16 September in about 45 north latitude and 165 wet longitude with a wind veering from south east to north west with a tremendous sea. With parted wheel ropes she was broached and thrown on her beam ends with the lee rail submerged. With securing the wheel and all hands in the fore rigging she paid off and righted with losing one boat.
