An item reported that according the aircraft carrier policy of the Royal Australian Navy the HMAS Melbourne (1) was to retain in an operational state while the HMAS Sydney (2) served as training ship. She was to be within 30 days operational for piston-engined aircraft and not to be modernized unless special circumstances.

Building ordered in 1943, laid down by Vickers-Armstrong on 15 April 1943, launched as HMS Majestic on 28 February 1945, work suspended between 1945-1946, christened as HMAS Majestic on 26 October 1955, commissioned as HMS Majestic on 28 October 1955, decommissioned on 30 May 1982, proposal for conversion into floating casino failed just like a sale in 1984, sold to be broken up in 1985 and broken up at China. Modified Majestic-class light aircraft carrier succeeded by Colossus-class.
2. Laid down by HM Dockyard Devonport, England on 19 April 1943, launched on 30 September 1944, commissioned on 15 December 1948, training ship since 22 April 1955, fast troop transport towards Vietnam in the Vietnam War since 7 March 1962, last time recommissioned on 12 November 1973 and sold to be broken up in 1975. Majestic-class light aircraft carrier succeeded by Colossus-class.
