An item reported that a US naval transport was attacked on 25 December by a submarine around 30 miles off Savannah, Georgia, USA. The fired torpedo missed passing astern. The transport proceeded at full speed avoiding further attacks by going full speed. She had opened fire when the periscope was sighted.
