Survivors of sunk Greek steamship Antonis Chantris arrived at LIsbon, Portugal in November 1940

In his letter dated Lisbon dated 3 November 1940 No. 890 to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine wrote the German Marineattaché Portugal that according to the newspapers Diario de Noticias and Seculo, Lisbon dated 2 November the Portuguese passenger steamship Serpa Pinto arrived with 22 crew members of the Greek steamship Antonis Chantris loaded with 9,000 ton coal underway from Cardiff, United Kingdom to Buenos Aires. Argentina. She was sunk with gunfire by a German submarine on 8 September of a distnce of 1,200 miles from Pernanbuco, Brazil. The Greek ship already escaped an attempt to attack her in the North Sea. Ten of her crew members were taken prisoner, the other 22 after 28 days rescued by the Portuguese ship.
