Ordered in 1957. Laid down by Haarlemsche Scheepsbouw Mij. Haarlem, Haarlem, Netherlands as an Antarctic patrol ship, transport and research vessel with ice-strenghtened hull for special service in the Southern Ocean on 30 September 1957, launched on 11 June 1958, exercised with Dutch artillery on the North Sea to check her behaviour at sea in December 1958, commissioned on 7 April 1959, decommissioned in January 1997, sold in 1998 to the merchant shipping.
