An item dated London, England 20 December 1902 reported that the stranded German warship SMS Wittelsbach (1) refloated effortless. The day before were the salvage efforts of the cruiser Prins Heinrich (2) and the battleship Kaiser Wilhelm (3) unsuccessful.

Part of Wittelsbach-class pre-dreadnought battleships preceded by Kaiser Friedrich III-class succeeded by Braunschweig-class, laid down by Kaiserliche Werft Wilhelmshaven on 30 September 1899, launched on 3 July 1900. commissioned on 15 October 1902, recommissioned on 1 June 1919, decommissionedon 24 August 1916, stricken on 8 March 1921 and sold to be broken up on 7 July 1921.
2. Armoured cruiser, preceded by Fürst Bismarch succeeded by Prinz Adalbert-class, laid down at Kaiserliche Werft, Kiel, Germany in December 1898, launched on 22 March 1900, commissioned on 11 March 1902, decommissioned in December 1915, barracks ship since March 1916 and sold to be broken up in 1920.
3. This must be the pre-dreadnought Kaiser Wilhelm II, part of Kaiser Frederich III-class preceded by Brandenburg-class succeeded by Wittelsbach-class, laid down by Kaiserliche Werft Wilhelmshaven, Germany on 26 October 1895, launched on 14 September 1897, commissioned on 13 February 1900, stricken on 17 March 1921 and sold to be broken up in 1922.
