American battleship USS South Dakota ordered to be built according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf dated 2 December 1938

An item reported that the New York Shipbuilding was ordered to built a battleship with as building costs 52.794.000 US dollars.(1)

1. The USS South Dakota BB-57 part of the South Dakota-class preceded by North Carolina-class succeeded by Iowa-class. Ordered on 15 December 1938, laid down by the New York Shipbuilding Corporation on 5 July 1939, commissioned on 20 March 1942, decommissioned on 31 January 1947, stricken on 1 June 1962 and broken up in 1962.
