American fleet minesweepers for the French navy according to the Australia Station Intelligence Summary dated 1 February 1956

An item reported the building of large wooden ocean minesweepers by the USA of which six were commissioned in the French navy and six under construction for French account. To be fitted out with non-magnetic engine and equipment. Displacement 790 tons and as dimensions 273 x 35 x 12.6 feet. Speed 14 knots and range 2,400 miles/12 knots. Armament 1-4cm gun. Surface Search U.S. AN/SPS-5 radar,Sweeps moored, magnetic and acoustic.(1)

1. The Fleet minesweepers of the U.S. MSO (ex-AM) type of which in September 1953 the USA agreed to deliver 8 new in 1953 and 4 more in 1954, and another 3 in 1956, 790 (standrad)-795 (full load) and as dimensions 165 (waterline)-171 (over all) x 35 x 10.33 feet? The 4-cm gun was for anti aircraft purposes.
