An item reported that the British destroyer HMS Kelly strick a mine of 14 December of the entrance of the Tyne. There were no human losses and tugs assisted her in arriving safely in the harbor.(1)

1. Part of K-class preceded by Tribal-class succeeded by L- and M-classes. Ordered on 24 March 1937, laid down by R&W Hawthorn, Leslie&co. Ltd., Hebburn, England with yard number 615 on 26 August 1937, launched on 25 October 1938, commissioned on 23 August 1939 and sunk during a German air attack on the position 34°40′N 24°10′E on 23 May 1941 during the evacuation of Crete, Greece.
