Made by Laird Brothers, Birkenhead in 1865 and presented to the Dutch Minister of Navy together with a model of a monitor as pre designs for the first generation of armoured ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The model is used for building the Stier by Laird Brothers in 1868 and in a slightly modified version the Schorpioen in France in 1868.
