Part of Furutaka- or A-class designed by Yuzuru Higara (8 March 1878 Tokyo, Japan-17 February 1943 Tokyo, Japan) assisted by Kikuo Fujimoto as response on the American Omaha-class light cruisers and British Hawkins-class heavy cruisers succeeded by Aoba-classs. Ordered under the 1923 Fiscal Year, laid down by Mitsubishi Shipyards, Nagasaki on 5 December 1922, launched on 25 February 1925, commissioned on 31 March 1926, rebuilt between 1937-1939, sunk in the Battle of Cape Esperance on 12 October 1942 and stricken on 20 December 1944.
