An item reported that the British trawler HMS Washington which was chartered for look-out duties was sunk on 6 December when striking a mine off Yramouth with just survivor of the 9 crewmembers.(1)

Completed by Cochrane&Sons, Selby, England as a steam trawler GY 468 for Premier Steam Fishing Co., Grimsby, England in August 1909, requisitioned by the British navy and commissioned as minesweeper trawler No. 833, since April 1919 again active in the fishery, requistioned by the British navy on 27 November 1939 and sunk by a mine laid by the German submarine U-59. The Dutch newspaper De Maasbode mentioned she belonged to the Earl Steam Fishing Co. Ltd., Grimsby with a gross tonnage of 209 tons and net tonnage 81 tons.
