German shipboard reconnaissance floatplane Arado AR 196 1938-

Designed by Walter Blume for replacing the Heinkel He 60 biplane while the succesor He 114 was a failure. Totally 541 built between 1938-1944 and used by the German Kriegsmarine, Royal Norwegian Navy Air Service, Bulgarian and Finnish air forces and by the Soviet Border Guard until 1955. Two aircraft were active at Penang, Malaysia, which was in Japanese hands, in 1944 in Japanese livery painting with Luftwaffe pilots.
