Part of Admiral Hipper-class preceded by Deutschland-class succeeded by planned P-class. Five planned of which 3 three were completed and 2 cancelled. Contractname Kreuzer J. Laid down by Germaniawerft, Kiel, Germany with yard number 564 on 23 April 1936, launched on 22 August 1938, commissioned on, 1 August 1940, decommissioned on 7 May 1945, surrendered on 8 May 1946, handed over to the US Navy on 13 December 945, commissioned on 5 January 1946, decommissioned on 29 August 1946, hull number IX-300, towed to the Kwajalein Atoll after the Operation Crossroads and capsized on 22 December 1946.
