Part of Project 945 Barrakuda called by the NATO Sierra-I preceded by the Alfa- and Victor-classes and succeeded by Akula-class and which was an upgraded version of the Project 945 Barrakuda (NATO Siera I). Laid down by Gorky and completed at Severodvinsk, launched in July 1986, commissioned in September 1987 and at the moment laid up in reserve.
