British merchant ship Hartlepool sunk by German E-boat according to the War Cabinet Weekly Résumé No. 45 of the Naval, Military and Air Situation 4-12 July 1940

An item reported that on 5 July the British merchant ship Hartlepool, tonnage 5,550 tons, loaded with ... , underway from ... to ... was sunk 16 miles south south west of Portland Bill. First reported as arrived at Portland, later that she was total loss. Part of convoy OA178.
