Ordered on 24 September 1875, laid down by Samuda Brothers on 24 September 1875?, ILN wrote that she was built “within little more than a year and a half from the date of the contract...this was due to the facility given by a new system of framing which Mr. Reed here introduced for the first time”, launched on 17 April 1877, completed in January 1878, reclassified as coastal defence ship in December 1905, stricken on 1 April 1909 and sold to be broken up in 1909. Scaled down design of the British Audacious-class central-battery ironclad HMS Iron Duke built between 1868-1871.
