Japanese passenger-cargo ship Heiyo Maru 1929-1943

Call sign JRXB. Owner in 1939 Nippon Usen K.K., Tokyo, Japan. Launched by Osaka Iron Works, Osaka, Japan with yard number 1127, completed in March 1930 and while serving as a transport sunk by the American submarine USS Whale (SS-239) on 17 January 1943. Gross tonnage 9.816 tons, under deck 7,990 tons, net 5,871 tonnage, deadweight 4,60 tons and as dimensions 460.0 x 60.0 x 40.5 x 14.5 (light)-30 (loaded) feet. Diesel propulsion, horsepower 2.004 nhp, fuel oil bunker capacity 1,700 ton, range 18,500 nautical miles/14 knots and speed 14 (normal cruising)-16.5/118rpm (maximum) knots. Suitable for mounting 6-5.7” guns.
