Launching of the British merchant ship Louisa Shelbourne at Battersea, England in 1854

The Illustrated London News dated 22 April 1854

Launched by Carnes Shipyard, Nine Elms, Vauxhall last Saturday. Built conform the barge or flat-bottomed principle and to be used for the Baltic trade between London, England and St. Petersburg, Russia. The largest ship until then built along the Thames above the bridge with her dimensions 119 (keel)-145 (over all) x 29’6”x 12’6” (hold) x 3.5 and a measurement of 560 tons. Barque rigged. Passenger accommodation and adapted for a screw propellor.
