Russian M-IV class coastal submarines in the 1950s

The edition of Jane’s Fighting Ships for 1958-1959 mentioned that the M- or Malyutka-class in the Baltic consisted of 5 different type built be between 1939-1944 of which the M-IV type consisted of the M 102 and sequence. Dimensions 147 2/3 x 11 x 9 feet and a displacement of 205 (surfaced)-256 (submerged) tons. Then present were the M-102/M-106, M-111/M-114, M-118/123, 127, 171-172 and M-174/177. Furthermore were for the IV-type mentioned the M-1/M-57, M-77, M-79/88 and M-191/M-93. The photo gowver differs from the O.N.I. Drawing.

Jane’s shows a photo of a M-V type submarine which resembles the O.N.I. drawing, but this type had a displacement of 350 (surfaced)-420 (submerged) tons and a length of 167 1/3 feet and included the submarines M-200/M-206, M-209, M-211/M-112, M-214/M-216, M-234-235 and M-237/M-283

Wikepedia mentioned the series XII with a length of 44.5 metres and a normal displacement of 206 tons while surfaced which corresponds with the length mentioned by Jane’s. The list mentioned the M-102/M-108, M-111/M-122 and M-171/M-176.

Rohwer mentioned series XII-bis with a normal displacement of 206 tons including the M-174/M-176 which were the former M-91/M-93, M104/M-108 and M-112/M-18/M-122.

Budzbon mentioned series X-II or Project 40 (with originally a low profile sail later modified in a high profile) and with a displacementof 205,5 (full oil surfaced)-356 (submerged) tons. He mentioned the M-102/M-108, M-111/M-122 and the M-171/M-177 (ex-M 87/M-89and M-91/M-93.The latter five all lost during the war. Further more mentioned he for this series the M-30/M-36 (ex-M-61/M69), M-57/M-63, M-90, M-94/M-95, M-96/M-99 (ex-M-96/M-99)

Polmar mentioned for the Series X-II the M-87/90 and the S-92 with a displacement of 205 (surfaced)-256 (submerged) tons and for Series XII-bis the M-31/36, M-57/63, M-92/122 and M-401 He wrote that the Series XII-bis was similar to the M XII but with a somewhat improved performance. Displacement 225 (surfaced)-275 (submerged) tons. The drawing he published is similar to the one in ONI for Far East Navies
