American whaler America visited Laihana, Hawaii according to the newspaper The Polynesian dated 16 April 1853

An item reported that the American whaler America master L. Fisher arived at Laihana, Hawaii on 24 April (?) 23 days from Tahiti stating that the Ellen Brooks arrived there on 20 March with 6 feet water in the hold, crew very exhausted and intending to take the boats the next day if she still had not entered the harbour. She was in really bad condition and not able to depart, again. Everybody was unloading the oil and bone but the fight against the water was as already lost.
