Smaller version of the Mersey-class. Built under the naval programme of 1887. Part of the Marathon or Medea-class preceded by Mersey-class succeeded by Pearl-or Pallas-class. Laid down by Chatham Naval Dockyard on25 April 1887, launched on 9 June 1888, completed in 1889 and sold on 2 April 1914.
