An item reported that the Japanese Hayatomo visited Tarakan, Dutch East Indies between 23-25 May 1937. The Dutch newspaper De Indische courant dated 1 May 1937 reported that the Japanese naval tanker Hayatomo would pay Tarakan on Wednesday 26 May an unofficial visit.(1)

Part of Ondo-class fleet oilers preceded by Kamoi succeeded by Kazahay, laid down by Kure Naval Arsenal on 14 March 1922, launched on 4 December 1922, completed on 18 May 1924, heavily damaged by American submarine USS Kingfish (SS-234) in the Sulu Sea on 9 October 1943, arrived finally under tow at Singapore, became a stationary fuel oil hulk at Singapore, next at Lina achorage between 12 July 1944-end 1945, again at Singapore, after 15 August 1945 used by the British Royal Navy as fuel oil hulk, scuttled in 1946 and afterwards broken up. Strciken on 3 May 1947.
